The Arboretum at Penn State Mont Alto was established by the Pennsylvania State Forest Academy in 1903 along with its forestry school. The school has extended species inclusion regularly since 1903 to help conserve species and provide a living index to educate the next generation of foresters. As a true and diverse historic arboretum, the Arboretum at Penn State Mont Alto contains over 1,000 trees representing more than 170 species.
