The Arboretum at Penn State Scranton spans the 45-acre campus that was founded in 1968. Located just outside the city of Scranton, the site was formerly used as a sanctuary for retired mules who worked underground in the area’s coal mines. Joining the Commonwealth Arboreta Network broadens the campus’ positive environmental impact and creates a “living laboratory” by providing green spaces for teaching and research.
